April 20  St.Hugo 6 - Shrine 4
Hugo jumped out to a big 6 to 1 lead after 2 innings before our Lady Knights started clawing their way back into the game.  Unfortunately, we ran out of time and we stranded too many players on base as we fell by a score of 6 to 4.  Shrine only managed 3 hits from Allison Sermo, Brittney Stuart and Kaleigh Sonntag.  Brittney Stuart started the game and settled down after a rough start, and Lexi Cavanaugh pitched 2 scorelss innings in relief to keep the game close.

April 17  Shrine 10 - LaSalette 3
Our girls kicked off league play witha strong showing, as they avenged their only loss last season to LaSalette, with a 10 to 3 victory.  Shrine was led by the pitching duo of Alexa Cavanaugh and Brittney Stuart who combined for a season high 19 strikeouts while keeping the LaSalette players off the basepath. Shrine hitting attack came from Ally Hill and Lexi Cavanaugh with 2 hits each, followed by Sam Kinjorski, Brittany Donahue and Brittney Stuart with one hit each

Our Academy Girls softball team kicked off their season this past weekend, playing in the Resurrection Tournament sponsored by St. Anne.  The competition was tough but our girls managed to come home with 2 and 2 record and advanced into the semifinals before being eliminated.  Brittney Stuart and Morgan Button were the hitting stars of the weekend and Allie Sermo stepped up to play many different positions flawlessly.  Ciaran McCourt made a fantastic catch which she turned into our only double play of the weekend.  The highlight of our tourney was our victory over host St. Anne by a score of 1-0.  Alexa Cavanaugh pitched a no-hitter while walking only 3 and striking out 11.  Lorron Marshall scored the only run of the game on Lexi's single in the 3rd inning.  In the end, it was Shivone Marshalls magnificent play in rightfield on the last play of the game that saved the day.  Other girls contributing solidly with their bats were Kaleigh Sonntag, Morgan Ciambelli and Ally Hill.  Brittany Donahue did a marvelous job all weekend behind the plate.

Grade School Girls

April 28, 2008

We had a .500 weekend. We took on the chin Saturday at St. Hugo. 15-0 The girls made some nice plays in the field, but we never really got on track with the bats.

We had a good turnaround on Sunday with a 15-4 win over Guardian Angels. The girls made some excellent plays in the field. And we had excellent pitching performances from Izzy Ray and Reilly Carr. The bats came alive today as well. We had consecutive innings of going through the order which helped us accumulate our 14 runs. Several girls had multiple hit games including Molly Swayze, Abby Rosler and Bridget Lyons.

The girls really put together a complete game and a total team effort for this being just our 4th game.

April 21-
We went .500 this weekend.

We took one on the chin on Saturday to St. Anastasia, 8-1. The girls played well. The fielding looked good and continued to get better on Sunday.

We fell behind on Sunday 5-0 until the 5th when we scored 5 runs, keyed by a Colleen McQueeny single which drove in 2 runs. The girls were terrific in the field once again with consecutive 1-2-3 innings. They also had some great eyes at the plate which helped our comeback. Izzy Ray was terrific in the clutch as our last pitcher on Sunday making a great throw for our last out.

We will make it a point to do a prayer before the games.
